THE JERZY GROTOWSKI YEAR
The year 2009 marks the 10th anniversary of Jerzy Grotowski’s death, 50 years since Ludwik Flaszen and Jerzy Grotowski took over the Theatre of the 13 Rows in Opole (later the Laboratory Theatre) and the 25th anniversary of the dissolution of the Laboratory Theatre.

THE ZBIGNIEW HERBERT YEAR
On the 10th anniversary of death of one of the most eminent Polish poets, the Polish Parliament has officially declared the year 2008 as the Year of Zbigniew Herbert.

2007

THE JOSEPH CONRAD YEAR
At the request of the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, submitted by the UNESCO Polish Commission, and supported by the National Commission of the United Kingdom, the 150th anniversary of Joseph Conrad-Korzeniowski's birthday was included in the schedule of UNESCO anniversaries in the year 2007.



Within the framework of the Year of Joseph Conrad, the Adam Mickiewicz Institute:

co-organized the exhibition "Joseph Conrad. Twixt land and sea"

co-organized the conference devoted to Joseph Conrad under the title "The reception of the work of Joseph Conrad – readers real and implied" (22-26 September, Collegium Novum, Jagiellonian University, Krakow).

co-organized a "Birthday Package" – a series of lectures, discussions, sales of books as well as screenings of documentaries on Conrad and film adaptations of his novels.

co-organized the exhibition of Christine Meisner’s works titled "The Present" (24th of November - 6th of January, the Center for Contemporary Art, Ujazdowski Castle, Warsaw).

THE KAROL SZYMANOWSKI YEAR
The Sejm of the Republic of Poland adopted a resolution announcing 2007 The Year of Karol Szymanowski.

In relation to the Szymanowski Year, IAM issued an English-language publication in the series "Composers and the Art of Their Time", which is devoted to Karol Szymanowski and the art of his time.

Current information on the events of Szymanowski Year can be found on the pages of the portal www.culture.pl, run by the Institute.

The Institute organized musical master classes, of Karol Szymanowski’s works as well as pieces by other Polish composers, meant for students of the A. Niezdanovoji Odessa Musical Academy.

THE STANISLAW WYSPIANSKI YEAR
The Sejm of the Republic of Poland adopted a resolution announcing 2007 the Year of Stanislaw Wyspianski.

IAM issued a publication "Drawings from the collection of the Lviv Art Gallery" which contains a selection of works from the early stage of the artist’s career.
