Attention: Light!

"Sound and Image" - an international presentation celebrating the 100th anniversary of Tel Aviv was prepared by 21 video artists from EU member states. IAM prepared the project "Uwaga: Swiatlo!" (Attention: Light!) by Jozef Robakowski and Wieslaw Michalak.

The film commemorates the American artist Paul Sharits, with whom Jozef Robakowski cooperated in the late 1970s and early 80s. In 1981 Sharits sent a film score to Robakowski suggesting that he should use it in a film. However, due to the martial law, the idea could not be carried out. The film came into being as late as in 2004. This piece of experimental cinema shows 8 color tones which are associated with the tones of Frederic Chopin's Mazurkas Op. 64 no 4. Subsequent musical tones are accompanied by certain colors. The flux of colors and light creates an artistic whole with Chopin's nostalgia-filled piece. "Sound and Image" was screened from February 6th until 8th in the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.

Project co-organized by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute as part of the Polish Year in Israel 2008/2009.
